when to check the oil level

I was always taught that you wait until the car is cold to check the oil level.
dealership says while it is hot.
which do you folks say it is?

I wonder if the dealership is putting too much oil in!

Different manufacturers have different procedures. With Nissan, at operating temperature you shut it off and wait 10mins. That’s a long time after engine shut off, most manufacturers it’s 30sec to a minute.
