I have a 2003 saturn vue, and the wheel hub bearing wont come off. I used heat,PB blaster and even rented pulleys from autozone and it wont still come off, The pulleys have you push against the axle and my axle doesnt have a pin hole so the bolt can rest on it. Any suggestions? Im thinking of getting a sledge hammer and a chisel so it will see some daylight between the steering knuckle and the bearing. I live in Ohio which is the Salt belt and the rust seized the wheel hub bearings…

I’ve had the same problem. Just grumble and take the steering knuckle to any repair shop during a slow time of day and they’ll do it in 5 minutes, for $40 or a 6-pack of Harkey-Davidson beer.

One trick I’ve used, though I had the pin hole on the axle, is an air chisel (needs to be a good one with some power to it– not the $25 one 🙂 ). Hit the center of the axle as you’re looking at it from where you put the wheel on (does that make sense?) After a little bit with the chisel– my hub came off.

I am assuming you are removing the hub / bearing to replace the bearing.

If so, what I did, after failing to remove it several other ways . .. First, leave the bolts in the bearing, and beat the living crap out of the hub with a big hammer. It will break loose. Work a bit on one side, then the side opposite so that you don’t get it wedged in the bearing cockeyed. Once you have managed to drive the hub out of the bearing, remove the bolts from the back of the bearing. At this point, I removed the dust / splash shield for the brake, to reveal the mating point between the bearing, and steering knuckle. I then used a flat chisel, and my BFH to break the bearing loose from the knuckle.

Of course, doing it this way, I left the inner race stuck on the hub, so I had to notch that with a dremel and cut off wheel, and then split it with my chisel, but the whole job, including pressing the new bearing back on, and reassembly was only about two hours. Not too shabby.
