So I got my mom an 94 Nissan sentra for $300. Needed full inside detail and shampoo, tune up, a few fuses (battery got jumped wrong), CV joints, tires, and a few steering + suspension parts. tax, tile, and parts about will come to about $900. only have 500 in it now and it runs great.

after I put on front ball joints, and the (inner/outer) tie rod ends, it will need an alignment. My question is will using the old bad tires mess the alignment up?

side note any one know if there is any adjustment for rear on this car?

      The options right now are
2 new tires and alignment. wait for other 2 tires.
4 new tires and wait for alignment.

      40k tire installed is $50

this car has to make a one way trip 60 miles, then will only see maybe 50 miles a month. for about 2 months before it get what ever else it needs.

      input anyone?

      thank you so much

Get the alignment, bad tires won’t affect tires whatsoever. FYI steering wheel position does NOT determine alignment, my wheel is crooked but it can’t be adjusted because one of my inner rods is going out.

You might want to look at the date code on the tires. This is the four digit code on the tires. An example would be 2610, which means the tires were made in the 26th week of 2010. If the tires are greater than ten years old I would have them replaced.

Yes, I learnt this the hard way. I got a set of 4 used michelin harmony installed for $175 two years ago. They had 3/4 of there tire treed left and looked good no cracking or anything. I thought it was a great deal. Now it seems they are dry rooting on the sides, lots of cracks, and I have issues with low tires due to weather fluctuations. Come to find out they are 12 years old.

Not a bad deal tho, I have put 20k on the tires and they ride great in water, almost like its not even there. on of the tires new installed runs $150. It is what it is.

SO what exactly do you mean by “bad tires”. are they bald, seperated, worn funny? Basically if the tires aren’t worn evenly doing an alignment can be a crapshoot, meaning even though everything is “straight” on the machine you can easily get an odd pull from the tires.

Assuming all 4 tires aren’t about to blow up you can easily get away with just doing the 2 front. Just don’t forget about the back 2, and really $50 a tire is pretty cheap.

When replacing only two tires the new ones always go on the rear. Tire Industry Association Rules.

since the sentra is FWD there’s really no such thing as a wheel alignment for the rear ( unless you get the solid rear beam bent ), but there is something called torque steer alignment . try not to get confused they call it 4 wheel alignment (does not stand for 4wd)
