Wheel alignment mystery.

I have had a problem with the alignment of a 04 tsx for 4 months. It started when I needed 4 new tires. The car have never driven as good as it did before. At highway speeds the car would feel unstable over uneven road surfaces.
In trying to solve this problem I have done wheel alignment 5 times, replaced compliance bushings 2 times, change to a different brand tire ( non directional ). Alignment was done at acura dealership, tire dealership & a well known private shop. But after each alignment the car still felt unstable.
Yesterday I found some factory paint marking on the rear toe adjustment. I adjusted the rear toe back to the original factory alignment. To my surprise the car drives far better.
I am puzzled. How can different shops do a alignment but the car drives worst?

Depends what you mean by “unstable.” Would it drift to one side? Do your tires make noises? With this type of thing, it is easy to let your head get the best of you and make you think something is different when it really is not. I see this all the time with people who put new air filters or change their oil and swear their car has much better acceleration / runs better.

A feeling of “instability” is a very vague description. Do you mean, it is unstable in the fact that it does not drive straight when you let off the steering wheel? I don’t know how to gauge your description. In any case, the likelihood that 5 shops did the alignment incorrectly doesn’t appear (at least to me) to be probable. But hey, I have been wrong before… Plenty of times.

        Keep us updated.

Do you have copies of all the alignments done? I’d be interested to see the results of before and after from each alignment.

You could go to 10 different shops and get 10 different alignments.
what you are concerned with is the factory spec in degrees. The specs
need to be within the range. what type of tires are you running?

Instability. The car zig zag sideways at highway speeds over uneven road surfaces. As this happens I have to constantly correct steer. This side to side movement is even worst when there is a cross wind and driving behind a trailer. Very much like a small plane flying in turbulence. I never experience this until the tires were first changed & alignment done.
