Can anyone please confirm the cause of this noise?
I hear a similar sound to what’s heard in the video at the link below, whenever I depress the brakes, even when stationary. It seems to be getting louder as well.

      Any assistance is appreciated.
      Thanks

The make, year and model might be helpful.

          I doubt it, but it’s a 2003 Nissan B15

Can you confirm the cracking noise is felt on the master cylinder??

I got 4 or vehicle with the exact same noise but at the caliper itself. It’s the seal itself that make that sound. being said, the fix was to replace it. But the first vehicle that came for that issue, my boss wanted me to lubricate… which mean disassemble and such and that did cure it for a couple of week. The noise came back and replacement fix it for good.

i never had a master cylinder having that issue but at this moment, I would unbolt the master from the brake booster (dont remove the line) and then press the pedal to isolate the issue. If there is no noise… that would definitly point toward the master cylinder.

What does it sound like when the car is turned off? Try listening for it by pumping the brakes and use up all the vacuum in the vacuum booster….. May help isolate the sound and point to the problem easier…

sounds mechanical like in the brake pedal assembly. Unbolting the master cylinder as one person stated may not be a bad idea, but it may not be necessary. When i get these noises at work the first thing I do is take a can of white lithium grease and start spraying around the brake pedal assembly, and around the pushrod and firewall grommet. That will usually lessen the noise and give you a better idea of what is actually squeaking

Could be the master or the booster. Hard to tell really. I suppose it might also have something to do with the brake pedal linkage as well. I might start by removing the master from the booster and inspecting inside the booster. You don’t have to disconnect the brake lines, just bend them forward with the master cylinder. Then you’ll be able to put your eyes on it and perhaps find the issue.
