      Hi
I have an old Toyota with a 2e engine and I have noticed these small filter like things below the carb. The car has 220000 miles on it and these have never been changed. My mechanic never pointed them out during regular tuning.
Kindly tell me what these are? What do they do? Do they need need to be changed?

      Thanks in advance.

not a 100% sure. But they look like some sort of vacuum filter.
Your best bet would be to go to a Toyota dealer parts department
and see if they can find it on a parts slide.bring the car so if
they need to see it.If your not having issues with anything.I would
not open that can of worms.those hoses and parts are brittle and may
        be discontinued.

Searched on google and finally found that its called a vacuum transmitting valve (VTV).
But I still can’t find what does it do?

Those are vacuum regulators and check valves. They are not serviceable. They should function for the life of the vehicle.

They work the same way as the check valve on the brake booster. They can stick or fail open if contaminated.
