Hi all, my 2010 Honda Civic LX has about 40% oil life left according to the Maintenance Minder system. I would rather not take it to my Honda dealer, as I’ve always changed my own oil. I’ve had the car for about 3 months. Any suggestions as to what brand oil and filter are best? I want to switch to synthetic. Thanks!

Just doing a little more research…never knew Purolator makes filters for synthetic oil. Think that may be the move for me. Now for oil: thinking either Castrol Edge w/ Syntec or Titanium. I’ve used GTX and High Mileage in previous cars. Dad’s always used Castrol in his trucks and the family cars we’ve had. Never had any engine issues I know of. Thoughts?
In a previous post I stated that I had 2 1970s Fords, a Gran Torino, a 1972 351 Cj and a 1974 Elite 400 cu in. (The 1972 was just like the one in the Eastwood movie).
They both had poor quality rod and main bearings in them. I think it took Ford 15 years to wake up.I was tired of the RED light blinking in my face so I installed mechanical gauges on them both. The 1974 would run 20 PSI at highway speeds…LoL.I was poor and lazy and didn’t feel like replacing the engines so I started trying different brands of oil. Out of about 6 brands of oil I tried of the same viscosity I found that Castrol GTX would consistently hold about 5 PSI higher pressure when hot than anything else I tried. The oil consumption was also reduced. I drove the crap outta both of those cars and never did repair the engines.
I have been using Castrol ever since. Several manufactures have filters for synthetic oil but I doubt if the extra cost is worth it.
