Let’s hear it people, dont be ashamed…Is it a car your still own? A car that you wish you still owned?

mine was a 1967 SS396 4-speed Chevelle that i bought in 1986 for $1k….feel like hanging myself for trading it for a brand new set of tires, just because i got tired of putting camshafts in it…..What’s your story…

My first car was a 2003 Cavalier 2-door 5 speed with the good ole 2.2 Ecotec, bought it with about 22,000 miles and drive it til it had around 65,000 miles, not a single problem with it but the truck I own now got traded in at work and I had to have it. Hated to see the Cavy go, still miss blowing the doors off all the rice rockets in town. Had a lot of fun with that, drove it out to Wisconsin twice, 40mpg running high test gas and driving 70-80 the whole way. Man that little car could scoot for a Cavalier.

First car I had was a 1979 Mustang hatchback with a carburetor fed V6. I learned a lot keeping it running like tuning the carb., changing the valve cover gaskets and replacing the alternator. Plus I wrapped it around a tree and had to get the frame straightened and got a friend to help me replace the front end and passenger 1/4 panel. I do miss that car but it developed some interesting electrical quirks (like the headlights going out randomly, especially doing 60 on the freeway), and some serious oil leaks, so I sold it for 500$ two years after I bought it for 1300$ in 1988. I still check out craigslist and ebay to see what the 1979 Mustangs are going for now.

My fiorst running car was a 1975 Chevy K10 Scottsdale. I do miss that truck. One day before making copies I lost the keys and decided a vien attempt at replacing the lock cylinders. An ec-roommate thought he could do a better job than me of getting down thru the steering column to get to the key cylinder wound up destroying the entire column. By now we were also running into other financial struggles so I had to let the truck go. I still miss it. For the year it was in great condition.

1965 Dodge Monaco with a 383 V8, 4BBL carb, 3 speed Torqueflite tranny and an interior with cane accents on the doors. I don’t know of any other car that had cane accents.

1973 Plymouth Satellite, 318 engine. I drove this during my college years while a student at Florida State University (this was the 70s you understand). It was a very nice running vehicle with decent power. Got about 8 to 10 miles per gallon, on a good day.

I got rid of it in 1981 because my father sold me a fleet car for $1.00 from his company. That car was a 1981 Mazda 626. I had nothing but problems with it and to this day, I am not sure I got my dollar’s worth out of it. I finally sold it for $300 because it was full of electrical problems and I had had enough of it.

1978 Chevy Caprice two door with the boxed rear windshield. 305 auto. Paid $450 bucks for it. Beat the crap out of it of course. Had it for over a year before I sold it for nearly scrap prices to get the rest of the money I needed to buy an ’86 Camaro with the same motor. What a dumb move… His name was Barney, because the brown paint had faded to a near purple color like that stupid dinosaur. This was in 1995. I worked at McDonalds, and on Friday nites after we closed (1 am), we would cram 7 or 8 people into it and drive an hour out to “Fudge Road”, which was where the local urban legend “Troll Bridge” was, and we would get the girls all scared so they would sit closer to you (as if that were possible with 8 people in a 2 door car). I miss it so much that I’ve tried to find another one as a project. I have a feeling if I find one, I’ll discover that most of what I missed about that car was sentimental, but it would still be fun to get one and give to my 10 month old son in 15 years. He will need a concrete block of a car if he is half as stupid with his first car as I was.

1994 Jeep Cherokee. I loved bouncing around in that thing. Not a care in the world in that thing. Now I’m a maintenance junkie when it comes to the Cobra.
