Well, as of right now I’m starting to buy tools and I’m starting off with craftsman tool… The reason being is because they stand behind their tools

Most of the tools I’m purchasing are mechanics tools… Do you guys have any other suggestion, as far name brand and good working tools that are dependable?

      Please let me know

Awesome, where would you purchase snap on tools ? Hell, I have to go to Sears to purchase my tools… Out here in Houston, Texas I can’t find a place to buy good quality tools … Like is said I’m building my tool box and I’m going to start doing home repairs around the house ..

I have a mixture of Craftsman and Snap-on tools along with a craftsman tool chest that i use for auto repairs i do from home.

However, the golden rule for tool buying is ‘you get what you pay for’ when it comes down to quality.

Stay within your budget and keep alook out for garage sales as you can pick up some good deals there too.

          Happy tool buying C8-)

I know up here the only place you can get Snap On tools are off the tool dealers truck. Best bet to do is google a snap on dealer in your area and give him a call to see if you can hook up and have a look on the truck and get some tools.

You can buy snap-on stuff all over online. Craigslist is a decent place to look. Other than that you’re gonna have to buy from a truck which isn’t really possible unless you work at a shop.

But really, if you’re just starting out Craftsman is the best bang for your buck. Kobalt stuff isn’t bad either, but in my experience with Kobalt the open end of the box wrench get chewed up quickly. I bought a large set of Snap-On tools when I was in school because I got a discount, but now I wish I hadn’t because it wasn’t really worth the money. HOWEVER, they are the strongest tools on the market and like everyone else here I recommend them when you have a little more money to play with.

It’s also worth noting that you can cheap out on a few tools, like steering wheel pullers and hose plyers. But you’ll need a good set of wrenches, ratchets, and screw drivers….and a STOUT pry bar. Little weinery pry bars wont get the job done when you need it.

Most tools I buy are Snap-On or Matco, mainly because of the quality and I use them everyday to make a living. Lifetime warranty on most things. Hand tools like wrenches, defintiely get the Snap On flank drive plus, they’re about $300 for 10-19mm, but well worth it. More comfortable to use and the open end is super strong with the flank drive plus, there’s small grooves for extra grip on what you’re working on. Nothing wrong with the Craftsman professional series, not sure if you’re in Canada or the US, but Canadian Tire here in Canada sells Mastercraft Maximum, they’d be the equivalent of Crasftsman professional, great tools for the price.

I never thought about Ebay, yeah you can find snap on and other big name brand tools there for sale. But locally here you can only buy them off the tool truck, you can’t buy them in stores.

Do some research on the Danaher corporation. It will make you rethink your tool loyalty, and how much you spend on them. Oh and screw Snap-On. They are overpriced and anything they have that you hold in your hand is uncomfortable, and slick. How am I supposed to use a wrench when the damn thing keeps slipping out of my oil soaked hands? Plus, you can feel the quality of a tool in your hand. My Craftsman wrenches feel like they will bend and warp under extreme loads. A Snap-On feels like it will break and shatter. They are tougher however, they have no give in them.
