First of all let me say that in general I am not a warranty complainer. Most of the time my position is that time spent bitching about how low the warranty time on a job is could be spent getting the job done quicker so I can move on to the next job. Accept it. Get it done. Move on.

With all that being said at what point does it go from a necessary nuisance to being flat out taken advantage of? When a manufacturer is blatantly happy to screw you with a labor time that they MUST know is ridiculous how can you continue investing time and effort into advancing up their training ladder?

I defected from GM and have been with Hyundai for about 9 months now and it seems like with each advancement of skill level the warranty times get more and more insane. I had to remove the heater box from a car to replace the evaporator. Of course this means that steering wheel/column, center console, hvac head, stereo, cluster, blower assembly, glove box, shift assembly and all associated interior trim had to come out. I had to strip this thing down to the firewall and their warranty pay for the whole job including recharge is 2.7 hours. C’mon guys am I crazy or is that physically impossible to do it in anywhere near that time?

        2.7? 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 :silly: :silly: :silly: :silly: :silly:

Holy crap man, did they tell you the time with a straight face?

I looked up a selection of Hyundais and it looks like warranty is on average 3 to 3.5 hours less than standard. OUCH

I’m really on the fence about whether I should continue with them. Right now I am somewhat lucky that I have a shop manager who will find someway to get me some extra time on it. It wont be on that particular ticket but he will likely pay me for a couple PDI’s that the hourly guys do. That’s nice but in the long run I cant expect to always have a manager who will supplement the thievery like that.
The cars seem fairly easy to work on and I like the Hyundai product so I don’t want to leave but at the same time I need to make good money. The alarming part to me is that I really have to question the knowledge and processes that go on at the corporate level if a time like that is acceptable. It’s kinda like I’m scared that they may have a disease. A disease that will continue to get worse.

The problem is the guys at the corporate level have never done that job before. Higher management wont ever take the time and energy to correct stuff like that because less money paid out looks better when promotion time comes.

2.7 hours, not even on crack would any good mechanic see that as possible… especually with all the work involved, i see that job taking a good portion of a work day for a good mechanic, at least 4-6 hours, it would take me quite a while…
