What is this in 2012 buick verano oil filter housing

40k miles, changed oil today and notice this at the bottom of the oil filter housing, it’s hard and wont break up. Does anyone know what this is? Car has had regular oil changes every 5k or 6k miles.

No, that was just oil sitting there. This black dot right in that hole. I tried scraping it with a pick and it was hard. Can sludge get hard like that?
Also oil I changed out was Mobil 1 EP Full Synthetic. Before that car had dealer synthetic blend oil from previous owner. I put Pennzoil Ultra Platinum in it this time.

Sorry your picture wasn’t very specific.
If I had to guess..
I believe you manged to break off the center pin from the oil filter inside the housing.

The center pin was on the oil filter I pulled out so I’m not sure. Like this stuff wouldn’t move it was stuck to the metal. Is it possible for oil sludge to get hard like that? Just trying to rule it out.

Yes.
Might try using a dental pick on it and see if you can carefully dislodge it.
Or you might try soaking it with parts cleaner and see if dissolves.
