Q: what is the most damage you caused to a customer vehicle?

many would agree that it is impossible to perform auto repairs on a regular basis without causing damage. i will start off by stating that the most damage i caused was during lab at at school. I damaged a ball joint while trying to torch off a lower control arm… no big deal in itself, but when everyone and everybody tried to help me press in the new ball joint, all kinds of hell broke loose. long story short, we ended up going through 4 ball joints; 1 damaged by me, and 3 damaged by my instructor trying to help me press them in… at the cost of $40 a piece and a full day of work.

I blew the engine of a customers Venture van all to pieces on a road test for low power. It even caught fire as a rod blew a hole in the oil pan. Fortunately someone with an extinguisher stopped and blasted the fire out.

The customer told me that i shoulda let it burn. LMAO

A 2004 Corvette with a 6-speed manual transmission came in once for new brake pads and rotors. When I finished the job I put all the wheels back on and torqued them but when I saw the last wheel I decided to clean it up a little because I left a mark. Once I put the wheel back on I forgot to fully tighten the lug nuts and the owner gave me the keys so of course I wanted to take a drive and have a little fun with it. I found an open road and decided to floor it, I was beyond impressed of how fast it was but I went to make a turn pretty fast and the front drivers side wheel just comes flying off. I scraped the front bumper, the drivers side fender, and damaged the axle and rotor. The owner didn’t even care because he said he was trying fix the car up from being sitting for over 4 years and he was going to replace the bumpers and fenders anyway. 😀
