I don’t like going to Discount Tire and other similar shops for the obvious reason. The personnel there are very sales driven and they will find a reason for y ou to buy a whole new set of tires even if you just bought a set a few hours before. I haven’t found full time employment yet and admittedly, I had a tire that was getting REALLY bad. Someone told me to go to a used tire shop and gave me a name. I did. I really enjoyed my experience there. They found a tire that was in really good shape, so it was made by a different tire company, big deal, it also didn’t have a road hazard upsell to dodge or a long warranty. For $35 installed he promised 25,000 miles and no problems. It’s been a lot longer than that and I’m thinking about making used tires a new replacement strategy. If I review every tire before they put it on, am I making a good decsion?

I have done it for reasons similar to yourself… When needs must. Probably better driving on a used tyre than an illegal or dangerous unit. I also had a reasonably good experience.
I don’t like to do it though as you do not know the true history of the tyre and no amount of inspection can tell you if the carcase is breaking down inside.
I live in the UK and we have consumer laws covering used tyre sales to help ensure safety.

All i can say is when it comes to used ANYTHING as far as car parts, i go with people that i trust, that being said there aren’t many i trust, but i guess if you find you trust them and they treat you right, go for it, the most important thing when it comes to things like tires, brakes, anything used in that category is your safety… a bad tire can be your death!

but i have had good experiences with a used car parts place that i know called GO GO auto parts, never really had a issue with them, bought a set of used tires for a ex once, they worked well for her until she wrecked her vehicle being stupid. but then again i did business with them quite a few times and have had no issues so i trusted them, if they get a positive reputation from people in town that usually means from others they are a good source of used parts.

i say if this place is like that too you, go for it, keep in mind a set of used tires wont exactly be like a set of new tires, but it sure is better than a set of bald tires or tires that are about to blow out.

There’s also a time and a place for a used tire. There’s also a difference between buying a singular used tire so you don’t die in a firey crash and buying 4 used tires because you’re too cheap to buy cheap new ones. The important thing is to buy them from somewhere that’s trustworthy.

Nothing wrong in buying used tires. If money is an issue, buy a pair of tires and make sure those two tires are mounted on the dame axle. When you buy two tires, have the pair of tires that are in the best condition on the rear axle even if those two tires are the two used ones you just bought. Also, get an alignment when you buy new or used tires to get the longest wear out of them.
