Basically transmission slip is your engine RPM is going up, but you aren’t moving any faster or the acceleration is sub par. Usually it will happen when there is a strong load placed on the engine/transmission. Such as, it’s hot outside and you’re going up a hill.

I agree with this as it is a good description of transmission slip. Keep in mind that what you describe may have nothing to do with the transmission, it could be an engine performance issue so be sure to check for codes and check your tune up items before you condemn the transmission.
October 29, 2011 at 11:00 am #457437Check your transmission fluid. I had a car that got a gash in the transmission pan and it was so low that you’d have to rev to almost 4000 RPM to get it to jerk forward.
If the torque converter is empty or low, it can’t generate a fluid coupling with the engine. If the torque converter pulls the fluid in from the transmission and there’s not enough left over the clutches could slip and burn.
