It’s a pretty open ended question I know but one I think it would be interesting to know the answer to. The main reason I ask is because when I started in this field I was very enthusiastic about working on cars and not only did I want to work on cars at work but I also loved coming home and working on my ‘project car’. I’d say that lasted about 5 years. Nowadays when I’m done working on cars I’d rather do something else. Don’t get me wrong I don’t have any animosity toward repair work I just don’t have the same passion for it that I did when I started out. So I guess the part ‘B’ of my question would be, are you sick of working on cars yet? If not why? If you are, why? And what do you do instead of working on cars to keep you getting up in the morning. I look forward to your responses.

I work on my house or fix things in my house that have broke. Play video games, make beer, and watch movies. I do most the maintenance on my cars at home on the weekends or after work. I do very little side work most of its for friends or relatives for very cheap and its more of a favor then extra income.

After 45+ in the trade i have really had enough. Trying to keep up with technology is difficult at best and i’m just burned out. I’m in an idependent flat rate shop with 2 other, younger, very good and fast techs. We also have an Apprentice who is gonna be good someday. I get the leftovers from the other techs and at times do a lot of services and safety inspections. Very hard to make a living anymore.
I have always tried my best and beyond to be a great tech but the battle doesn’t seem to pay off anymore. It’s all about money, piss on human beings and respect.

I have a small computer business that i work at in my spare time. I really enjoy chasing and removing malware and virus’s as well as hardware repairs. If i had enough computer work i would quit working on cars and never look back
