This forum is started by suggestion from one of the forum members, SpawnedX. The idea behind it is to have a place where technicians can talk about their experiences and ideas concerning their careers and profession. Think of it as sort of an extension to ETCG1 were we talk about things that concern us and the automotive industry. This is for technicians only so please don’t post automotive questions here. If you are a technician welcome to this forum, if not please stay behind the yellow line. Perhaps we can start by introducing ourselves.

I’m Eric Cook aka EricTheCarGuy. I’ve worked as a professional technician since 1996 and have been an ASE master technician for the past 15 years. I worked for Acura at the dealer for about 8 years and spent the rest of my time working at aftermarket shops on both imports and domestics. I’m also an Acura certified master technician which I got as a result of my training at Acura. For a brief time I ran a Carx after I lost my job at Acura, that was interesting and challenging in many ways but I did work with some good people there and learned a lot about running an automotive business as a result of that experience. Now I have a successful auto repair show on the internet as well as a successful website and forum. To be honest my favorite job so far has been working as ETCG, it seems my entire career including my termination from Acura has led me to this place and I could not be happier with the result. I suppose that just goes to show you never know where you’re going to end up.

Welcome to the Technicians Only forum, I look forward to getting to know you and your work better.

          Hello,
My name is Mason *Mace* and I’ve been an automotive tech for over 30+yrs. Currently working in an indy shop and doing 90% light duty diesel work (ford/dodge/chevy). Was ASE certified until about 12yrs ago, also held several GM certs. Pretty much self taught and learned from being thrown to the wolves so to speak, at most places I worked. Fairly weak at elec. work due to colorblindness, but still love to do heavy line work and love working on cars none the less. Engine and Tranny rebuilding are my favorite, tho really GREEN at transmissions and have only built about 20 give or take. Anyhow thats a bit about me.

Hey y’all, I’m Kerry McCoy from west central Missouri. I have worked on cars for the past eight years or so, and I am currently studying automotive technology at State Fair Community College with the goal of one day becoming an ASE-certified technician. I have a 1979 Ford Courier pickup, and she’s my baby (after my wife, of course). I look forward to getting to know you guys!

Hey guys my name is Turo.I’m from the San Francisco bay area. 24 years old and I got in the trade when I was 20 going on 21 I believe. I did attend community college as a part of an apprenticeship program when I 1st got into the trade but did not complete due to a union issue that occurred during the buy/sell of my dealership. Either way I’m still employed at the same location. Still a Nissan dealership. I’m a Senior specialist level with Nissan hopefully master by fall this year and I’m also a ASE Master Tech.

My name is Clayton Koch and I started out pumping gas for Montgomery Wards while still in high school class of `79 . Moved to the back doing tires and the rest I learned all the hard way by using my two hands . Became a battery and charging system guru working for JCPenney auto centers due to the lifetime warranty battery they sold until they closed . Was swallowed up in the Firestone takeover of the JCP auto centers where I really moved forward and became certified in four areas of ASE in 1986 which I still keep up at my expense to this day . Did some time for corporate Goodyear before going to the indy Goodyear owned stores . And for the last ten years I have worked for a “gasp” fast lube in the service department where we do full line repairs to all makes and models . I specialize in front end work but do what is asked of me ……..For the most part .

Hello! My name is Rich and I’ve been in the industry since ’88 when I graduated from Arizona Automotive Institute (mostly a waste of money – community college would have been just as good at a fraction of the price). Worked at several small shops in WA state until ’97 when I went to work for a repair information provider (there are only a couple of us – you can guess which one probably) and have been there since.

I still work on my own beater fleet and those of friends and family but most often work behind the scenes to get fellow techs the repair info they need. I have a son currently in the Ford ASSET program at the local CC who teaches me stuff every day.
