This forum is started by suggestion from one of the forum members, SpawnedX. The idea behind it is to have a place where technicians can talk about their experiences and ideas concerning their careers and profession. Think of it as sort of an extension to ETCG1 were we talk about things that concern us and the automotive industry. This is for technicians only so please don’t post automotive questions here. If you are a technician welcome to this forum, if not please stay behind the yellow line. Perhaps we can start by introducing ourselves.

I’m Eric Cook aka EricTheCarGuy. I’ve worked as a professional technician since 1996 and have been an ASE master technician for the past 15 years. I worked for Acura at the dealer for about 8 years and spent the rest of my time working at aftermarket shops on both imports and domestics. I’m also an Acura certified master technician which I got as a result of my training at Acura. For a brief time I ran a Carx after I lost my job at Acura, that was interesting and challenging in many ways but I did work with some good people there and learned a lot about running an automotive business as a result of that experience. Now I have a successful auto repair show on the internet as well as a successful website and forum. To be honest my favorite job so far has been working as ETCG, it seems my entire career including my termination from Acura has led me to this place and I could not be happier with the result. I suppose that just goes to show you never know where you’re going to end up.

Welcome to the Technicians Only forum, I look forward to getting to know you and your work better.

Jeff here in Tennessee. Been doing various work on vehicles for the past 20 years. Recently stumbled upon ETCG, good stuff! I’m ASE certified and all that jazz. Never too old to learn and hopefully I can be of a little help or advice one time or another.

Hi I’m Mike and I was an ASE certified tech for a number of years before moving on to automation. My certifications have lapsed but I still work on cars in my own home shop after work and weekends . So I hope its still OK to post some of my experiences on this tech only site when I have one to share.

I’m not sure I’m welcome here 🙁 . I started working in dealerships in 1994 and just left my last job to get out of the field last October. I have worked exclusively at GM dealers. I have ASE master tech and more GM certs than I can count. I just could not take the dealerships any more. I just discovered ETCG as for the past few years I wanted nothing to do with cars when I was out of work. Now I think I actually miss working on them.

My name is Sarah. I started becoming interested in mechanics about 5 years ago. I helped my sisters boyfriend do a cv axle on a michigan rust bucket (a mid 90s Talon I believe) and it sparked my curiosity! At this point I had no idea how to do anything to a vehicle besides put gas in it and drive. I ended up moving to Denver Colorado and in 2010 impulsively enrolled at Emily Griffith Technical College in the Automotive Engineering dept…not one of the high end technical schools but it got my foot in the door. I graduated with my certificates in 2012 but I don’t have any ASEs yet. I have yet to work in a real shop but this year I plan on trying, I do work on the side. Not sure if I am allowed.

Hello, my name is Mike. I am a rental field mechanic for a Caterpillar dealership. I got into the industry back in 06. I started out working the graveyard shift at a TA while getting my second collage degree in diesel technology and heavy equipment from Lake Washington Tech. I was medically disqualified from the military and since I couldn’t work on tanks I went into the heavy equipment field. I have worked on Case/New Holland, Bobcat, John Deere, JLG, Genie, Snorkel, Skyjacker, JCB(I hate them) and now I work on Caterpillars.

I just found the whole website and the Youtube channel on Tuesday and figured I’d drop in and look around. Site and the youtube channel are great and I look forward to browsing through them all.
