This forum is started by suggestion from one of the forum members, SpawnedX. The idea behind it is to have a place where technicians can talk about their experiences and ideas concerning their careers and profession. Think of it as sort of an extension to ETCG1 were we talk about things that concern us and the automotive industry. This is for technicians only so please don’t post automotive questions here. If you are a technician welcome to this forum, if not please stay behind the yellow line. Perhaps we can start by introducing ourselves.

I’m Eric Cook aka EricTheCarGuy. I’ve worked as a professional technician since 1996 and have been an ASE master technician for the past 15 years. I worked for Acura at the dealer for about 8 years and spent the rest of my time working at aftermarket shops on both imports and domestics. I’m also an Acura certified master technician which I got as a result of my training at Acura. For a brief time I ran a Carx after I lost my job at Acura, that was interesting and challenging in many ways but I did work with some good people there and learned a lot about running an automotive business as a result of that experience. Now I have a successful auto repair show on the internet as well as a successful website and forum. To be honest my favorite job so far has been working as ETCG, it seems my entire career including my termination from Acura has led me to this place and I could not be happier with the result. I suppose that just goes to show you never know where you’re going to end up.

Welcome to the Technicians Only forum, I look forward to getting to know you and your work better.

Hi to all. I am a Mercedes tech and have been for the last 15 years. I started working on Mercedes when I was 17 years old at a indy shop for Mercedes. I have been working for Mercedes dealer as a master tech sense 2003. I am the only tech at my dealer that works on the Mercedes SLR. I do everything from light bulbs to rebuilding v12 engines and transmission. I have two working stalls and one dead stall. the shop see about 80 to 100+ cars a day. I have a lot of fun doing what I am doing but it has its bad days and its good days. So if anyone needs help with a Mercedes just drop me a line and I will do the best to help you.

        Curt.

I guess that’s the place for intros LOL.

My name is Vince, and I am from a little place in the Canadian province of Québec. Yup, I’m a frenchy 😛 Thankfully I have no problems using my second language anymore LOL.

Anyway, back to topic. I subscribed back in March to a training program to become a truck technician, and I begin next Friday, can’t wait!

It’s a sorta recent decision in fact. 3 years ago when I just graduated from high school I attended another training program in electricity, basically to be an electrician. Turns out my first experiences have been disappointing. The nature of the work isn’t what I expected, and that’s the moment I understood the difference between a hobby and a career! I just don’t see myself being an electrician my entire life, even if I love messing with electrical stuff!

That being said, I decided to first subscribe to a sort of visiting event where you become a student for a day in the program. Took the opportunity to visit another school in the Québec City area 😛 In the first half of the day I worked on a pneumatic spring (a replacement simulation), and time flew like an arrow in turbochargedhyperdriveness mode xD (really don’t know where that word comes from  ) In the afternoon I worked on a Detroit Diesel inline 6 engine. I didn’t do as much actual work but I loved starting and reving that big boy!

That day I really did see myself doing this in the long term, something I didn’t feel with the same sort of one day event I did three years earlier in the electricity program. But I don’t regret that electrician diploma! It’ll help me in my job as a truck technician!

That pretty much sums up my intro as a technician I guess!

                      Hey everyone,

My name is Jake and I work for a large brand tire dealer and currently hold six ASE’s and the newbie (A1 Engine Repair, A3 Manual Drive Train and Axles, A4 Suspension and Steering, A6 Electrical/Electronic Systems, A7 HVAC, A8 Engine Performance, and yes yes G1 Auto Maintenance and Light Repair). Hey, my name is Ryan and i’m a Ford dealer technician. I’ve been there almost 8 years and tend to specialize in interior and suspension work. I get most of the recalls, NVH concerns, water leaks, electrical issues, warranty concerns, basically anything that is a problem with warranty time or a wild goose chase. I worked at meineke doing custom exhaust and services as well as Advance Auto Parts before Ford. ASEs in Brakes and Steeing & Suspension. Ford certified in electrical, St&Susp, Nvh, A/C. Waiting to go to brake classes next year. It’s a long waitlist because all the other techs have to go to a class that has a deadline for early next year. Anywho…

You gotta think outside of the box with this stuff so any help i can give i will.

                                  Hello, my name is Kevin.

I started out taking 2 years of auto tech training in Michigan. Joined the military and worked and maintained Chinook helicopters for 6 years than joined a independent repair shop. Worked there for 8 years working my way up to head technician. When that shop closed (owner sold to chain store) I opened my own and stayed there until the property owner sold that location to developers. Went to work at a construction company as a fleet technician till my illness made doing such work constantly almost impossible.

Now I work out of the 3 bay garage on our land (fully insured) I still am working to expand my certifications and training and enjoy a much more relaxed work load. I still get to fix cars/trucks but can better dictate what I will and wont take.

Love the ETCG videos and think Eric is doing a great job helping others and helping technicians.
