Hello all, for the past two days I’ve been having a weird shift issue. I am a pretty aggressive driver and the computer should’ve have learned my driving habits by now. Anyway, I normally use the highway to go to work every morning and I normally cruise around 60MPH (2k-2.2kRPM). When I press the gas, the RPM goes up a bit then drops to around 1.4-1.5K and the speed dosent increase. It feels as if I’m not getting any response from the throttle at all unless I floor it. Any ideas?

Are you ashamed to tell us the year, make, and model?

Have you gotten a check engine light?

First thing to do is to remove the Mass Airflow Sensor and clean it with some brake cleaner.

Eric has a video that shows how to do this.

How many miles on this car, and have you kept up with maintenance, especially transmission fluid/filter servicing? I’d start with the inexpensive basics: fuel filter, air filter, clean MAF sensor and throttle body. See if there’s any improvement. If not, then it’s on to more comprehensive stuff like transmission service and spark plugs.

Ill try the fuel filter and maf cleaning. I hear ford has a special kind of coating on their intakes and ill need a special cleanser. Is that true? The car has a totally rebuilt tranny as of October 2012. the car has 132,103miles. Bought it with 99k in may of last year.

Some Fords had a coating on the throttle body bore and throttle plate so that deposits wouldn’t stick but that was on the older Fords. There was a sticker installed on the throttle body that cautioned against cleaning. By 2000 they decided that it didn’t help or was worse so they stopped using it.
