I have a 2007 Silverado 1500 New Body Style with a V6. I have been hearing a weird noise coming from the dash area. I took it to the dealer and they could not hear it. It is not very loud. If I turn on the air or radio it drowns it out. Once I reach 5 miles an hour the road noise drowns it out. It has been going on for about a month and it does not seem to be getting worse. You can hear nothing from under the hood. I planning a trip soon and I want to make sure this is nothing serious. I have a video file that I will try to upload here and I plan on visiting the dealership tomorrow. I went to the dealer today and they did hear the noise this time. They looked it all over and could not find the source. They think it could be some part in the dash but could not confirm. At least it’s not getting worse. Turn the setting to one and you can’t here it. Went through all the gears at idle and the sound remains. I did try some things when I got back from there. I took my lawn blower and hit all the vents to see if anything might pop out. I didn’t help. So I have another bright idea to use my shop vac. Used both the suction side and the blower side. Did not help. So I guess it is what is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RR8KByndYoA

What setting are you changing to 1?

Sounds like a electric motor noise. Could be an actuator motor or blower motor. Try removing the fuse for the blower motor or just disconnect the harness to the blower motor to see if it stops. Could also be that a varmint has made deposits in the blower squirrel cage. Some blowers run even if the HVAC is turned off to circulate/filter cabin air.

            The air conditioning/heater nob.

I have removed the blower motor fuse and it still makes the noise. I have not removed the blower motor. I guess I should try that next.

I took the bottom piece of trim off and used my stethoscope to narrow down the noise. It is coming from the place where the red arrow is pointing.

                What is it?

The noise could be coming from a stripped out piece on the the flap inside the housing (where your red arrow is). Unplug the actuator (your black arrow) and see if the noise disappears. If so, you’ve found the problem. The actuator is what moves that flap open and closed. The gears are plastic. They can strip out with age.

I unplugged both wire plugs and it still did it. I re-calibrated the blend doors by removing the HVAC/Battery fuse for 10 seconds, Then put the fuse back in and let it run for 40 seconds. Pulled back in the garage and it is still doing it. I decided that I may have reached the end of my skill set on this problem. I re-installed the kick plate which kicked my butt. Took me over a hour to get that thing back on. A fuss cuss words were also used. I’ll take it for a long ride tomorrow and see if anything improves. Everything on the HVAC system is working perfectly good air good heat and no issues except that sound that’s driving me nuts. I have been top the dealer twice with this problem and have gotten nowhere. I may try and independent shop to see if they have any clues. There isn’t to many shops around that I trust but maybe I could ask some of friends for a referral, Thanks for all the help

Maybe next time I visit my family in Columbus, Ohio I’ll swing by JEGS and get some Hooker Headers and some Glass Packs. I bet I won’t here the noise then.

Try replacing the cabin air filter if you have not already. See the attached video.

My year Silverado does not have a cabin filter. That’s what the dealer told me

If the picture OP posted was actually of his truck, it doesn’t look like he has a cabin air filter. Where it would be is clearly factory sealed.

I’m also pretty sure the item marked actuator is actually the resistor for the blower motor.

As DaFirnz pointed out, that part where you drew your black arrow is probably your blower resistor pack, not the blend door actuator, so that is probably why the noise didn’t go away when you unplugged it. I still think your actuator is the source of the noise. See if you can find the correct connector for the actuator, and unplug it to confirm.

It is my truck in the picture. The resistor had 2 plugs attached. One went to the blower motor and one went to something above that area. I could not see where it went. I unplugged them both and the noise was still there. I thought I knew what the Blend Door Actuator looked like. I have attached a picture of what I was looking for. My truck being a 2007 New body style most of what I found on the web showed different locations on the actuator. Some for the classics and some for the 2008’s. The noise was loudest in the box area, but that could also have been an echo from some where else. I replaced the kick panel. (That was a lot of fun) and I still get the noise. Like I said all functions of my HVAC system are working properly. Heat/AC/Vent operation are just fine. It just that noise that’s driving nuts. It does not get louder when driving and it is always on. If I stop at a light and shut down the radio and AC I can hear it.
Thanks for the info guys. I know someday with your guys help I can be rid of this noise.

I can clearly see the cabin air filter door between the arrow in your photograph and actuator in your photograph. Granted there may not be a filter in the housing. The video I posted was a similar model and the door is a little different.

You do not. What you can see is the knock-out sealing up the place in the molded housing where the cabin air filter would normally be placed, but GM discontinued putting cabin air filters in their trucks beginning in 2003.
