I learned Mig welding in school taking auto body used mig with gas it was easy. I could weld full quarters to making big metal bird houses lol Now I’m trying to build my own tool list to do jobs and hope to have my own little shop one day. I am looking for a welder to weld mower decks to broken bolts like welding a nut on it and turn it out and exhaust work too. I never really practiced Stick welding but have learned a stick welder takes practice more then a MIG but it is affordable and you can weld alloy to stainless steel with different rods. On my van the flex pipe is leaking alittle after buying a whole new Y pipe with the flex pipe made on it.Yeah Go figure my warranty Exp last month the 8th month. It started leaking this month the 9th $164 dollar part sucks. So I’am gonna get me a welder I have allways wanted one for working on my cars etc and other peoples cars I work on so I’am allways buying tools if I can. Now my concern alot of cars have stainless steel exhuast like my van the flex pipe and pipe is stainless steel. A mig welders now days have flux core where you don’t need gas save money. I think in order to weld Stainless you got to have the right wire and right gas which can become Pricy VERY Pricy If you get a set up with the gas special wire and tanks and gas add it all up better be ready to spend out. NOW the old school ARC aka stick welder cheaper yeah harder to use takes practice and affordable too. It would take practice and learning which rods for which weld your doing.
Can you weld stainless steel with A mig with flux-core without gas
Yeah a stick welder would work if you use the right rod turn it down and practice. Also getting the weld flowing all around the exhuast you would have to take brakes your you could burn through just like a mig.I just don’t know if I should go old school get a stick and practice or will a mig with flux core wire weld stainless on these newer cars.
