I bought the aisin timing belt kit the other day for my van and I saw this stuff on the water pump. It looks like some kind of goop they use to help keep the gasket on, but in one corner it looks like there was too much goop placed and it’s pretty hard stuff. Is this common? Was wondering if it could be in issue. I’ve enclosed some pictures below.

I would get rid of that stuff . let the oring do its job. That stuff looks like it would be happy to clog up the rad if it broke loose.

I just removed the o-ring gasket and cleaned it up at that corner.
