I have an 87 f-150 inline 6 when I drive it in the rain and especially when I make a turn water gets on my belt and causes me to lose p/s and alternator–I have to pull over and rev engine a little to get the belt dried out–then I’m ok again. Does anyone know why? is there a water defector missing I don’t know about or is this common on the 87 150’s. Thank You Kenny

Do you actually notice the belt slipping or is it squealing? Are you sure it is caused by water/slipping and not another issue? May be time for a new belt and/or tensioner..and checking for glaze on the pulleys and/or if a bearing or something is seizing up… Possibly on your PS pump since it seems to happen on turns…

Check to see if you have the lower splash shield in place. That’s pretty much what it’s there for. Should be a plastic deflector that goes under the radiator and across the front of the vehicle.

Keep us posted on what you find.

Thanks for all replies I’ll try to check the truck this weekend. The problem only happens when it rains. Thanks again Kenny
