Hello! So I have this problem with vw T4 1999 manual 1.9tdi
I went to make my inspection and noticed that my rear reverse lights are not working. I checked the bolbs and they were fine. After that i checked the fuse and it was blown.
I put a new fuse in it, put the car in reverse (without engine runing) and the lights were on. I went to inspection and when they told me to put my car in reverse the lights weren’t working so i checked the fuse and it was blown again. I have checked the wiring i can see but havn’t found any damaged ones.
Sorry for my english. Hope someone knows whats happening!

wecome to the curse of the VWs, electrical gremlins.

You are probably going to need a wiring diagram to track this down, since it’s likely ther is more on that circuit than the reverse lights. What I might try is with KOEO shift into revrese a number of times and see if the fuse blows and note the conditions. If it does not blow, that try it with KOER and see if it blows. in either case, if it blows measue the resistance from the load side of the fuse to ground and see if ther is a short under the exact conditions that blew the fuse. I would be suspicious of teh reverse switch, but I bet that is a pain to get to to remove and test.

I had a similar issue in my 99 passat, where a fuse would blow and the car would not crank. turned out the start relay was on the same circuit as the puddle lights in the doors and one of the lamp socket was making intermittent contact with the door frame and blowing the fuse.

My wife loves VWs (probably since she does not have to fix them), so I’m stuck.

        Good luck, keep us posted.

So i found the wiring diagram but couldn’t find anything else on that circut. So i started to check for wiring from back to front and in the engine bay i found one wire that was loose and rubbing aginst the frame. I think it was due previous repair, when I took my car to the shop to change a radiotor fan. Probably when they took it out they broke clip that holds the wire and in result it was damaged.
          Anyways thanks for help! 🙂
