I have a 1999.5 AEG 2.0L Jetta I am working on at the moment. Problem: Car will start. Car will run perfect. I can take it on short trips and no problems (10Km at most). If I drive any longer than that the car will not restart. Sometimes waiting for it to “cool down”, it will start up again. If I jump start it (standard) it will start up. Stumped here. 🙁

Its like the car has a electrical problem somewhere.. As far as coolant goes its fine and fans kick in.

Will do. Plan on bringing a can of that ‘circuit freeze’ and my OBDII reader on a long drive tomorrow. Hopefully the car will act up when I stop… Working fine right now since its -12 out and its been sitting all day. will keep you all posted as to how I fair out.

If its heat soak failure you would think that it would cause car to stall after heated up?! hmmmm Anyways.. wait till tomorrow i guess 🙂

I have never heard of that ‘Circuit Freeze’. Very interesting.

It would be nice to see a scope pattern of a CKP with that circuit freeze adhered to the CKP sensor.

If it is the crank sensor, then yes, I would think so. In fact, each time I have seen a bad one that’s exactly what would happen – runs for about 2-5 minutes then just cuts out. Spray it and it works again for a minute or two. But you can use the spray to diagnose other parts too.

It’s a spray, handy to have around:

Do you really mean bump start or jump start? Jump starting is done by using cables and another car’s battery, bump start means you pop it into gear while it’s moving.

+1 to the above post. More information is needed.

Also, if the vehicle will not start back up, you need to see if your missing fuel or spark. Start with the basics.

I would start with a fuel pressure test KOEO to see if you have adequate pressure. If th

You can also put the CEL code in the search function of this website also.

I am assuming this would be the crankshaft sensor!?

Use the link i provided. It is somewhat helpful.

You will need a wiring diagram for this one as well as doing some basic electrical testing.

We do have a free link to Chilton’s online in the ‘How To’ forum that might show some wiring diagrams.

That code and symptoms often point to a bad crankshaft position sensor. I’d check there.
