VTEC solenoid gasket?

      Vehicle 1999 Accord. 4 cylinder. 150000 miles.

I replaced a leaking VTEC solenoid gasket with the one I bought on Amazon. The package was marked HONDA so I assumed that was the OEM part. It did not fit “like a glove” but it did fit. Now it is leaking again.

      What did I do wrong?

I do not want to buy another gasket if I get the same results!

Will anaerobic RTV work here? I mean can I leave the “new” gasket in place and just apply an anaerobic RTV around it?

      Pleas advise.

      Sam

        Yes simple easy mistakes.
When I buy a part or gaskets I always check model/year and engine number.
im not Honda person so I can’t advise you but if you can post pics of what your talking about.
        It would certainly help

          Thanks for reply CordiaMad.

The old and new gaskets look the same. I do not think that picture will show any differences in them.

Is there a chance that a new gasket will hold?

Will an anaerobic RTV hold or should I simply try to buy a new gasket?

          Thank you very much,
          Sam

In some cases, you really have to do some simple math and ask yourself if it’s worth buying some rando part off ebay versus spending a couple dollars more for a part that is guaranteed to fit properly and last. Do the math, your car is 17 years old, most seals start to fail around 10 years.

The Vtec system operates of carefully regulated oil pressure and there’s no telling what could happen if a small amount of sealant got stuck in a n oil passage.

Go get either a legit factory part or a quality aftermarket part and be done with it. Unless the part is specifically identified with manufacturers and part numbers, there’s not telling what kind of failed quality control stuff you’re buying on ebay. If it was a part that is normally several hundred and you can get it for a fraction, then take the chance. But a small seal? Just get a known good part.

Here’s the OE part number for that gasket kit: 15825P0A015

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen one of those leaks. The last two I did, I was told we wouldn’t be able to get the gaskets without ordering the spool valve itself. I wish I could have proven otherwise then. @ the OP, it’s probably better for you to just get the gaskets right from your nearest Honda dealer. I’ve got my local prices in the attachment below and it beats most of the people selling the same kit on eBay.

                        Thanks!

Ordering from roach auto is out of option. They burned me three times and I had to pay for return shipment.

And even if I decided to buy from them, the part most likely would be the same crap that I bought on Amazon.

I can find a lot of “genuine” parts online but who can tell me how genuine they are.

I am off on Friday and I plan to visit our local dealer. I hope they have the part in stock.

                        I appreciate everybody who replied.

                        Regards,
                        Sam

I want to close this thread.

As you may remember the Honda seal I got from Amazon leaked. I went to dealer and bought another one. The same part number but paid two times more.
Believe it or not it also leaked.

I got desperate and applied a “Non hardening RTV” around the mating surfaces.

                          IT IS NOT LEAKING!!!

In other words I should have started with this and not waste my money on new gaskets that leak.

                          Sam
