As stated in the subject I have a 1995 Volvo GLT without a turbo. I have six codes that I need to fix before I ship off to basic combat training March 5th. I need it fixed because i’m leaving the car to my pregnant wife and 2 year old son. I would just farm it out but I don’t have any shops around where I live that I can trust. So I was wondering if I can get some advice on tackling this job. I understand Volvo is NOT an easy care to work on but any help I can get would be greatly appreciated. The first code is P0730 it said Gear ratio incorrect I have no idea where to start with this one. The second one is a P0500 speed sensor I watched the replacement video on the site so I have a general idea of HOW to do it ill just have to locate the sensor. The third is a P0705 which is a tranny range sensor again no idea where to start with this. The fourth code is P0440 an evap code I have an idea of where to start with this because I bought a Haynes manual and even though its not that descriptive it gives me some idea of what to do. The fifth code is P0133 it came up as a bank one o2 sensor I saw Eric replace one in his video so I should be good with that again its just finding where it is. Finally the sixth code is P0400 an EGR code again I have somewhat of an idea of how to take care of this one. I’m not expecting to have someone to completely help solve my dilemma but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for time.

Your p0705 code is related to a prob with the pnp switch ( or some refer to it as a neutral safety switch ) located on top of the tranny ( remove air cleaner box to see it )
your code p0730 is probably related to the pnp code – do you have probs starting the car ? do you have to rock the gear shift back and forth slightly ? you can try ratcheting the gear selector 15-20 times through the gear range ( engine off ) sometimes this will clean the contacts in the switch and fix the prob ( temporarly though ) p0500 is the speed sensor ( check for wiring damage before replacing the sensor ) should use a dvom to check sensor as well. p0400 – use a vac pump tool and check egr valve operation as well as vac lines condition. p0440 – check gas cap , tank fill hose and all line to evap canisters. 02 sensor – check by the cat. test for voltage before replacing ( as eric did )

The p0730 could be related to the trans speed sensor too, all that code means is that the computer is detecting slippage between the shafts inside the trans. How does the ATF look?

The ATF is topped off and I don’t notice any slippage or have a hard time putting it into any of the gears. I looked at some stuff yesterday and noticed there is oil leaking all over underneath my MAS flow. I think there is a hose or something missing around that area but I don’t know because i’m not sure whats supposed to be around there. I do know that its getting on some of the electrical and sensors. I also found the bank one o2 sensor and it looks terrible even from the outside so I will just have to change that out.

On something like this the first thing you may want to do is check all of the fuses in the car, if one is blown then several circuits can be affected. If they are all ok then try tackling one code at a time.
