I did a quick search on the YouTube channel and didn’t see this covered; I believe it would be very helpful. I know there’s great resources out there for wheels and tires; forums dedicated to specific cars, and sites like tirerack. But one video giving a good overview of everything to consider with visuals would be awesome.
Topic: Wheel and Tire Upgrades
I admit my interest here is primarily from buying track-day wheels and tires, but I know a lot of people have interest in upgrading their 70’s muscle cars and simply changing the appearance of their car.
Potential sub-topics:
– Required measurements to make, before shopping
– Brake fitment (particularly if upgrading the brakes at the same time)
– Looking for steering/suspension components most likely to interfere with fitment of larger wheels
– Offset/backspace
– Fender clearance
– Changes to suspension geometry if the wrong wheels are fitted (wrong offset compared to OEM)
– Ideal pressures (street/track-day/drag racing)
– Heat cycling new tires
– Damage caused by overheating the tires
– Tire shaving (performance tires)
– Performance/summer tires versus winter tires and safety
– Comfort factor (16″ versus 20″)
– Wheel material, weight, rotating mass
– Low profile and run flats (primarily BMW’s – virtually 100% chance of tire bubbles each winter in cold regions)
