Since there’s been some discussion about this recently, how about a video about when you started your business, e.g., why, what you had to do, problems you ran into.

I looked at this myself a few years back. I took a small business planning course and researched the pros and cons. The rewards were great, but so were the problems. Example from my business plan:
The keys to success for these companies include:
      1. A neat appearing shop.
      2. Trust developed between the customer and the business.
      3. The customer is made to feel welcome and cared for.
      4. Excellent reputation for the shop.
      5. High quality of finished work.
      6. Competitive pricing.
      7. Professional Staff.

      Stumbling Blocks:
      1. Cost. $270,000 to open and operate for first year.
      2. Difficulty obtaining and retaining professional staff.
      3. Compliance with Federal, State & local regulations.
      4. Customer retention.
      5. Very long hours for owner/operator.

My business is actually EricTheCarGuy, not auto repair. I never really ran my shop like a repair shop, before I was ETCG I just used it to work on my own cars and do side work. I have done videos on this topic however. Most are on ETCG1. Here’s one that comes to mind.

Right, but I’d still be interested in your thoughts about starting/doing EricTheCarGuy. The rest of what I posted was what I went through deciding about starting my own business. (Refurbishing, not general repairs.) Overall, it just wasn’t worth it to me or my spouse.

The business of ETCG is VERY different than starting an auto repair business. That’s more of a ‘How to make Money with YouTube’ kind of thing. Perhaps I’ll write a book one day if I ever get rich doing it. 🙂 For now there is the ‘About’ page on this website. It pretty much covers the ‘journey’.

Okay, thanks. That’s the one place I normally don’t look.

It’s an 8 page diatribe of my journey up to this point for those that care to read it.
