Video on Use of torque wrench

I’d like to hear your opinion on when you really need to use a torque wrench
and when it’s really not that necessary. I know service manuals give torque
specs for every bolt, but I notice that with the exception of interior engine bolts
few mechanics use a torque wrench. I saw your video on torquing lug nuts but noticed for instance when you did the civic motor exchange, you didn’t torque the exhaust manifold bolts. Not criticizing just asking if it is necessary.

Thanks great site. I get tired of watching shows like West Coast Customs and Boyd Coddington’s Hot Rod where they work on cars that no real person will ever own or drive. I find your video’s a lot more entertaining, kind of like the show, Wheeler Dealers, where they work on regular cars.

There are times when torquing a fastener is critical, say when you’re doing a head gasket or something like that. It’s not always practical as a technician to torque every bolt however. Over time you get a ‘feel’ for how much torque a fastener should have. Keep in mind that these are people that work on vehicles every day so they do have a good frame of reference when it comes to torque. In the mean time I have made this video.

Most times when working without torque wrench small bolts are overtightened and large bolts have not enough torque on it.

Yeah me too, and what’s up with Boyd Coddington and working on so many of what seems like the same type car all the time? IDK I’m prolly just missing the shows of the good builds lol.
