Maybe I’m not buying the right brand of repair manuals but I’ve been very disappointed with the last few I’ve bought. I’m a home garage do-it-yourselfer and these manuals just don’t give me the info I need. For example, I have a problem now with the AC/Heat vent doors on one of my cars and the manual I bought for the car doesn’t even mention any of the dash controls. Am I buying the wrong books? I remember that many years ago, the Chilton’s, etc manuals were hard cover, about 2″ thick, and contained just about anything you’ve ever want to know about the vehicle. Are manuals like that still available? Thanks for any info/advice your have!

I know what you mean, I originally bought the haynes manual for my focus back when I first bought my car, but a 350 page book barely covers both engines offered, the 3 transmissions (2 different manuals transaxles for the 2 engines) and all of the wiring!!!
The best manuals to buy are shop manuals made by the big guys them selves especially if your car is 10 years old +/- a few years… I actually was able to buy all 3 official ford shop manuals (2 of them about 3 inches thick the other about 3/4 inch) for my 2000 ford focus for about $67 on ebay. You just have to look around a little…
Thanks. I’ll check that out. It sure would be good to have better books when I try to fix my vehicles.
