      Hey guys!!!
The other day I had to go the er with my wife – When we got out of the er about 3:30am (I used the remote start to start my truck from the other side of the parking lot) As i was walking up to my truck I noticed a verry light ticking noise….. I popped the hood and the noise was coming from the passenger side valve cover.

With the other issues you are experiencing per your other thread, it may be time to look at a replacement engine. The mileage is high and the problems are only going to continue to mount up. Those 5.0’s are everywhere. Find a decent one at a scrapyard and spend your $138 plus some to solve your problems in one shot in my opinion.

          +1.

302’s are a dime a dozen. You could probably find a long block anywhere from $200+.

Well durning the time i spent looking for the heads. I found a nice new 302 with less then 90k complete engine for 250. the guy also had a set of heads for 30$.
my only worry is the shipping cost. The engine runs great in the truck iv ran it on a dyno and came out at 390. Dang it i dont need this right now with a new born.

That truck put out 390 hp? Factory specs were around 185hp, at least for my ’91 per edmunds.com. But still, $250 plus shipping for the complete engine with 90k miles on it will save you loads of money in the long haul. And I feel ya on the newborn. My son is 10 months old. The smart money would be replacing the engine now instead of wasting money down the road on a motor with going on 300k in my opinion.

The hp part was mostly my dads work he had done some work to the engine. The engine is bored 40 over with flat top pistons i know that much – I think it has a e40e cam. Im pretty sure the heads are shaved. and i think there was a weight reduction done to the crank. not sure.

Im not sure but I know its had a complete rebuild at least once.

The only way i can come up with the money is by selling my gaming computer. Yall know anyone wanting to buy a computer?

funny beefy…. ford requires a spacial socket to remove the oil sending unit… but theres away to remove it with out the socket i believe.
I think its a 1ich or a 1 1-16 socket (If you wedge it just right it should work) i dont have a socket over 1ich. most my tools wear stole sometime ago..

Found the reason for the ticking noise… One of the rocker arm bolts wear hand tight – went to tighten it down and got to 28 foot pound and the bolt started losing up. Its stripped (I got it to 25 foot founds but that was it) Idk what to do -I was told i could helicoil it but iv got none of the tools to do it or money.

Autozone has the oil sender removal socket needed but you can possibly use a crescent wrench or a 6 point socket depending on how stubborn your old one is to remove.

I’m not meaning to down talk your dad’s work. I know how I would feel, as I would kick alotta @ss. But realistically, 390hp out of that motor won’t happen w/o some major work. Like a super/turbo charger. But, if you want to keep that hoss running, yer best bet, again, is to long block it. Your pops would understand. I really mean it too bro. I’m not trying to be a smartass.

I understand what your saying beefy.

I just happened to be going threw some of the paper work in the glove box and found a receipt from 2003 for a short block crate engine. costing 5340.00$

I thought he had replaced the engine at one point- im going to look in to this more
