Valve lash adjustment

Hello,
I own a 03 Civic (100K miles, engine 1.7L SOHC). I am a DIY and want to do a valve lash adjutment. I don’t want to damage something but in the other hand I have to try to become better and more confident. The service manual says Intake: 0.007″ – 0.009″; Exhaust: 0.009″ – 0.011″. My question, in order to make sure I don’t damage something by putting too small gap would it be a good idea to set it to the high end of the interval. In the example it would mean set the Intake to 0.009″ and the Exhaust to 0.011″?
