Valve Cover Gromet Question

I recently replaced the valve cover gasket on my ’99 Jeep Cherokee (4.0L I6). Being a computer guy rather than a car guy, I assumed the replacement gasket kit would have all the required parts, and threw out the old gasket and gromets. When I went to install the new gromets, I realized they were missing the hollow metal cylinders which goes inside of them. When I tried to torque down the bolts on the valve cover, I couldnt because the bolt heads would just sink down in to the gromets. Being unable to recover the old hollow cylinders which went inside the gromets, I simply placed washers underneath the bolt heads, which allowed me to torque down the bolts to the proper specs. Should I expect any problems from this? Is there any place (outside of the dealer) where I could order replacement hollow cylinders? Sorry for not knowing the proper term for this part, as I mentioned previously im a computer guy, not a car guy.

I’m sure if you go to one of the larger hardware stores and look through the hardware bins you should be able to find something that will work. You may need to cut it down to size, but anything that keeps the grommet from collapsing should do the trick. May even be able to find something in the plumbing section.

I’m not familiar with this particular engine, but the 2 things that could happen is it may leak oil or mess with your PCV system.
