Valve clearance adjustment for Honda Civic si

I have a 2009 Civic Si (US MODEL) with the 2 liter k20z3 engine. I watched your video on the honda element when you did your valve adjustment. My question is after you adjust the valve clearance with the adjusting tool, before you tighten down the locknut should you oil the locknut threads or try to lock it down dry or just lock it down dont worry about it. The car has been sitting for a few days cold.

Why try to oil the threads of the valve adjusting screw and lockut when they are already oily? I’m not sure I got your question right. If I did, then the threads are already oiled…..

Because the helms manual says to oil the threads afterwards which is weird. And usually when you torque something down you want it to be dry and not oiled, when threads are oiled it changes the specified torque dramatically. In essence you are actually over torquing since the nut is very slippery.

Looks like oil is ok. If it’s not oily yet, I see no reason not to oil it. 14 ft lb is not much more than hand tight. With a 6″ wrench, that’s like picking up 1.75 gal of water.
