I think the mode door on that model is vacuum operated so perhaps you have a vacuum leak or something along those lines
June 19, 2012 at 11:00 am #456609Check around the engine for a t connection behind a canister on the passenger side. The tube connects to a port just to the right of the throttle body. You will need to remove the intake air cover to get to it ( this is all according to what ive found on google, also its on a 97 but should be similar)
The mode door is located in the “dog house” which houses the evaporator and all that jazz

Where is the mode door located and also would you know the Vacuum Hose Diagram Of this model?
June 20, 2012 at 11:00 am #456610It could also be a vacuum leak under the dash in your interface which directs vacuum to the servos in the HVAC. In short I think you’re looking for a vacuum leak somewhere OR a problem with a vacuum reservoir or check valve, as you accelerate intake vacuum goes away so they store vacuum in a canister to be used by the HVAC during these conditions, if there’s a leak there or a malfunctioning check valve it can cause the symptom you describe. The information on the specifics of the system would be found in the FSM so see if you can track one of those down OR perhaps Mitchell on demand or something like that.
