Can the air intake make a loud enough hissing under acceleration that it sounds like a vacuum leak? I can’t find any leaks, but I never noticed hearing this before. I recently put a new air filter in, and I’m wondering if maybe the old one was so dirty that it was restricting air flow which quieted it down. It’s also worth noting that I don’t always hear it. ’99 Ram, 5.2L V8, 260k as of this week.

It is possible for an air cleaner assembly to make a hissing sound, but I have only seen it in aftermarket filters with high CFM. I would check for vacuum leaks just to be safe:

check the air box lid is fully seated.

Air box is together solidly and it’s mounted solid too. I will check again but I couldn’t find any vacuum leaks.

You can have a hissing under acceleration if you from exhaust pipe clam is begging to leak. The exhaust pressure will rise and the small gape steel corrosion in you clam will make noise.

It’s not likely you would ‘hear’ a vacuum leak like that. Intake vacuum drops off the closer you get to WOT. It’s more likely to be your new air filter that’s causing the noise. It’s a little known fact that those twists and bents in an intake hose are there to help ‘muffle’ intake noise. This is why after switching to say a cold air intake you often hear more noise from the intake system.
