If I absolutely cannot find a new throttle body gasket for my 2003 UK-market Ford Escape 2.0L (badged as the Maverick over here, and discontinued in 2003 – Ford Europe doesn’t sell the gasket any more and I can find nothing on the aftermarket), can I use RTV instead? It’s a moulded rubber gasket, not a paper one that I could cut from a sheet of gasket material.
I’m holding out hope that the American Escape 2.0L used the same gasket, so I’ve got one on order from RockAuto, but the parts guy at my Ford dealership said that even when American models share the same engine platform, things like throttle bodies can be different enough to make gaskets incompatible.

If I was going to go that route I would use permatex great stuff. It dries harder then regular grey or black rtv
Is it one of these or do they both fit the same job ??

If you need to seal it on your own, loctite-5926 is your friend. I think its very similar to the Permatex mentioned above

As long as you didn’t damage the original seal, clean it, the mating surfaces, and put it back together. If you have a little nick or a cut somewhere, just use a little RTV in that spot only. It’ll hold until your new seal shows up.

I specifically asked at the Ford dealership parts counter if there was any interchange with other Zetec throttle bodies, and they checked the parts catalogue and confirmed that the 2001-03 Maverick 2.0L throttle body assembly has no interchange with any other Ford Europe vehicle.
As I mentioned in my first post, I have a gasket from the American 2003 Escape 2.0L on its way from RockAuto. Fingers crossed that will work.
