I’ve bought a JEGS trans pan drain plug kit, and the instructions say to drill a 1/2″ hole in the pan. Where I live everything’s metric, and to get a 1/2″ drill bit I’d have to order one online. Would I be OK with a 13mm instead, given that 1/2″ actually converts to 12.7mm?

Obviously 0.3mm is a pretty small difference, but more than enough to cause a trans fluid leak. My feeling is that a 13mm drill along with RTV around the external sealing washers on the drain plug would do the job?

i wouldn’t mess with that .3MM personally, someone may say otherwise and have experience and say its ok, but i think if it calls for a 1/2 inch hole i think it would be wise too stay with that…

Personally I think you’d be fine. If not, you can work the drill around a little to make the hole slightly larger.
