Just bought a one owner 02 Acura RSX with 130k that appears to be in good shape for my 19yr old son. This weekend we plan to check/change the belt, spark plugs, Auto trans fluid, oil, pcv valve, coolant, power steering fluid and brake fluid. Is there anything else we should be checking or changing other than also taking a look around and inspecting things while we are doing the other work.
Your videos are outstanding for helping amatuer machanics like me tackle some projects and save some big $$$$

Personally, if you have the funds and want to do it right, this is what I would do:
– Check/Replace belt and tensionor
– Change Oil and replace Oil Filter
– Change Power Steering Fluid
– Change Brake Fluid
– Check/Replace Brake Pads/Shoes/Drums/Rotors
– Replace Transmission Fluid and Filter. Check old fluid and pan for black specs or metal
– Check Compression and Replace Spark Plugs (And wires if it doesn’t have coil packs)
– Flush and replace Coolant, if you are feeling really good, Replace Water Pump and Thermostat
– Check/Replace air filter and check for vacuum leaks
– Change differential fluid (If Equipped)
– Check U-Joints/CV Shafts
– Check Wheel Bearings
– Check and Grease Ball Joints, Tie Rod Ends, Sway Bar/Links
– Check Shocks and Springs for oil leakage or excessive rust
– Check brake lines, power steering lines, and fuel lines under the car for rust
– Change Fuel FilterYou are pretty spot on, just be super thorough and look at everything you possibly can!

Sorry, I could delete my post if you want so you could post it 😛im still ironing out bugs with things just depends on what you are trying to upload from your phone. it wont let you upload videos from the phone or anything else other than youtube or the other video providers listed in the forum.
not the forum’s issue, my phone is just slow…its a rooted HTC Thunderbolt. with 4g usually off…waiting for the next tegra 4 based android phone…
I’d also try to find out if the car comes with receipts of service work. Or knowledge of it.
Along with the inspections, this should help prevent buying parts only to find out they’ve been recently changed. Quality of parts also comes to mind.
Check the brakes, CV boots, air filter, fuel filter, check the battery (clean it, check the open circuit voltage), check the alternator.. make sure it’s fully operating, tires (pressure, tread wear, tread level), check for any muffler leaks, inspect all hoses, inspect the shocks for leaks, check for any rust spots……. that’s about all I can think of on 2 hours of sleep.
Edit: Didn’t even realize that there were 8 other responses, so basically i’m just repeating what the other guy said haha.
