I’m looking to buy a used car, but I’m not sure what makes are good or bad. I’m current;y looking at a 2009 Honda Fit or Civic.
Does anyone have thoughts on Honda and Hyundai vs domestic?

in my opinion tata is the worst make that i have been told to stay away from, i drive a skoda personally and they are very good. provided that you do routine maintenance regularly you shouldnt have any problems, i never driven a Honda personally but i hear from my friends that they are good and would not trade them for anything. my brother has hyundai and he loves it.

Honda’s are ok, but people tend to beat the crap out of them. Same with Toyota, Nissan, et. al. As far as makes to stay away from I’d stay away from Anything that’s no longer made (Saturn, Scion, etc). The best advice I could give you is to make sure you check everything before buying a car.

Look at the motor, are there any leaks or broken parts?
Look at the suspension and frame especially if you live in an area where frame rot is a concern.
Look at the Tires. Do they have any unusual wear?
Take it for a test drive. Any noise or vibration that feel out of the ordinary?
Also check the fluids. Beware if any of the fluids are black or smell burnt.

Mostly just take your time when making a decision and avoid buying a money-pit/klunker.

If it has fresh, brand new looking motor oil in it I’m gone.

Nissans have been good to me. Owned 3. Great engines. Very reliable. Not a fan of the CVT transmission though, I recommend getting one with a manual transmission . I love my 6 speed Altima

Just to clarify I always keep in mind cost/availability of parts and with Toyota dropping the Scion brand and phasing out the tC, I’d think twice before buying one. That said I will agree that Toyota makes some good stuff. Although I’ll always remember my Mom’s old Toyota pickup getting into a very minor fender bender and the whole front header panel assembly basically fell off the truck. She tied it back on with baling twine LOL
