I have a friend in NY that told me he used Fix-A-Flat to repair a leak in his A/C. Has anyone head of this before? Does this really work? Would this damage the A/C?

        No.

        Yes.

If ye’ choose to go the path of stop leak (which I would not recommend) then at least use the appropriate product:

In my opinion, the only chance you have of this product actually working is if you had a pin hole leak in a line of the low pressure side of the system.

I wouldn’t take the chance with it as it might damage the whole system. There are products made specifically for that. I have seen limited success with it however. If you try it make sure that system is pumped into a vacuum for 30 minutes or as soon as the sealant comes in contact with air it will turn to blobs of sealant and will plug the passages in the A/C system.

Thanks to the both of you for your responses. I’m convinced my friend may have made a serious error.
