Have 1995 Ford Taurus gl 3.0 New to me. Only starts with starter fluid and then runs fine. Will re-crank again right afterwards but not if it sits a while.
The fuel pump whines but pitch is up and down. I am trying to pull codes off the OBD1
connector. I get the test light to lite up with the engine light …. but neither light will flash codes. I read on many help sites that once the key in turn on the relays and pump will come on and after the pump stops, the flashes will begin. My F Pump wont stop.Is this true? I am going to replace fuel filer tomorrow and rent a pressure gage kit.
How do I test the fuel pressure regulator?
What other thought do you have?

UPDATE UPDATE
Fuel Pressure at key on is 40 Running is 30 Unplug FP Reg dose not all ways jump…when it dose it is only by 5. Think the reg is bad…. But the Fuel Pump is load and within is variable.Could the pump be the problem and not the Reg?
Vacuum is 17 hg when running but needle shakes….steady as rpm is raised and jump to 20 hg when sudden de accel back to 17.

I just replaced the fuel reg… no change run at 33 psi and some times ups by 5to7psi when reg is unplug
Wont crank unless a little starting fluid is used…but runs real good when started.
Not sure about the erg valve…. when running the vacuum line has a weaker vacuum than the other points Ive tried. When i put a strong vacuum on it when running, the rpms drop…
When I put a vacuum on the egr while starting does not have an effect
