Unknown Engine Noise

When I rev my engine as the rpms decrease I get an unknown sound that seems like it is heard pretty well from the intake. Im not sure if it is intake related or the sound is just more present there. Any advice appreciated.

      This is a 1999 Isuzu Amigo, 3.2L , around 145,000 miles

      Thanks,
      Dave

sounds like back pressure is coming back through the intake.
check your PCV is not clogged.

Well, whewwwww part of it is likely high air flow. CAI is a great resonator, you know.
As of the saw blade noise, I’d check on throttle plate bolts 1st. As it’s clear something thin rattling at high frequency. From that on, who knows.
          That’s a dirty K&N filter, btw.

Just to add. When you removed OEM intake, you also removed resonator chamber, that is designed and there to dampen high air flow noise. So don’t be surprised. That’s the piece that looks like a large hollow box attached to air intake tube. Forgot special name to it, after some guy.

Just recently replaced the PCV valve, which was definitely needed, but no signs of change in the noise.

It sounds like the idle air control adjusting for idle speed. It’s taking a small gulp of air. With the original air intake you wouldn’t hear it. Nothing to be concerned about.

Ok, that makes sense, Ill have to check that. I did have the throttle body off not too long ago to gain access to something else and it seemed fine so I am really thinking that’s not it. And yes that filter has probably been on there for years, haha. Haven’t done anything with it yet because I am planning on eventually finding the OEM airbox on ebay or elsewhere cheap and putting in a regular air filter.

Why? KN filter adds about 1mpg under otherwise normal driving habits.
I am not aware of anything else in there, outside of throttle plate, that may make such a high pitch vibration noise. But definitely a rattle that should not be there.

Take the air filter off and see if it still does it. The thing sounds plugged to me.

I would rather just have the intake stock. Regular filters are cheaper and I wont have to mess with cleaning the cone filter and letting it dry out before use. To me it sounds like something internal just not sure what exactly. I think I ruled out the throttle plate seems pretty secure.

The noise is still present with the air filter off.
