      I’ve built

a replica Ferrari Dino 246 GT its been a never ending learning curve to build and now its finished and I’m getting to drive it I’m finding a new learning curve when it comes to maintenance. I need a little advice. The cooling system has been freshly filled and all’s well except the heater matrix is full of air because its entry/exit pipes are both at the bottom.

Has anyone used one of the small vacuum filling/purge kits that you can hook up to a home/garage compressor? I want to know if I need to drop all my coolant, or will a basic vac kit take all the coolant out and drop it in a bucket, or will it drag any trapped air out of the system by causing it to bubble through the coolant as a response to the vacuum being established even if it can’t lift all the coolant from an end to end cooling system?

The radiators at the front, the engines towards the rear and the cooling system is about 16ltrs (3.5 gallons)

Unfortunately the manual method you describe doesn’t work so well with my car, both the entry and exit pipes on the heater matrix are at the bottom, which may obstruct the escape of the air above (I should of mentioned that in the original question).

I could partially dismantle the dash to turn the heater matrix over to help the air escape but its not ideal. So any info on the vacuum filling question would be really helpful to me.

I can’t help you with your issue, but I want to say that is a mighty fine looking 246 Dino replica. What engine are you using? More pics?
