I was doing routine maintanance on my 2011 acura rl and noticed white material splattered under my hood and the cap was missing from the shradder valve on the low side of my air conditioning system. I have not noticed any change in my air conditining system, but I live in NY so temperatures are cold. Should I be concerned?

It could be salt residue. I’m in jersey and my car
is coated with the crap. oil will come out foamy but
          disappear. does it feel oily?

It does not feel oily. It is dry. I was concerned about freon spraying out from low side of ac system. Do you think this happened? Should I buy a screw on cap for the low side shradder valve; it is missing?

Could the road salt spray up through the undercarriage onto the underside of the hood? If so, road salt may be what it is.

I would replace the cap and wait until spring to see
if the ac works. Not much you can do at the moment. 🙂

Car is still under warranty…thinking about bringing it to the dealer

If its under warranty then no worries.

Apply spit or a little soapy water to the schrader valve to see if it is leaking. If not leaking then let dry and install a new cap. The cap just keeps the dirt out.

What is the color of r-134a and PAG refrigerant oil? Since these are the components of my ac system.

Won’t leave that as the refrigerant evaporates. The only time you’d see anything if there was a problem with it is if dye was introduced, or as a clear discoloration, much like a washed food grease stain on a shirt from the oil. Likely just salt as already mentioned.

I’d get a replacement cap of course. As it’s all under warranty, why not just schedule something to have them look at it (possibly along with any regular maintenance you have them perform), check AC, and fit another OEM cap? If you’re paying the cost of a new vehicle, might as well cash in on the benefits of that while you can.
