      What exactly is tucking and shaving and how can it benefit?

          Haha yes I know but I have heard about tucking and shaving an engine bay and I am curious as to what it actually is.

              It’s about hiding the wires and stuff, in the engine bay. This gives a clean look to the motor. No other benefit that I know of. It looks really good, if you like that look. But it’s probably a lot of work.

                  The only benefit is making it look awesome. Even though it looks like it would make things easier to work on because there’s so much more room, it actually makes it much more tedious to work on and especially diagnose wiring problems.

                  The Tucking part involves extending all the wiring harnesses that go from inside the car to the engine bay so that they can be run down the insides of frame rails or in large conduits made from polished pipes, eliminating the clutter of wiring.

                  The Shaving part is mostly bodywork to smooth out all the creases and fill the holes that are naturally found in factory sheet metal. It’s mostly bodywork, welding, sheet metal fabrication, body filling, and painting. It also often involves relocation various reservoirs, computers, and other clutter to inside the car or under the frame rails (out of sight).

                  Here is an example of a very clean but still cluttered engine bay on the same kind of car (mine), not shaved but some of the wiring has been cleaned up:
