      Hi,

Trying to hook up a battery tender (http://www.amazon.com/Battery-Tender-021-0128-Plus-Charger/dp/B00068XCQU/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1393208691&sr=8-3&keywords=battery+tender) to a 2013 GM vehicle.

I believe I figured out where to hook up the positive alligator clips…but I can’t figure out where to hook up the negative clip.

Reference the files below which include screenshots from the owners manual and photos I took of the engine block. In the last photo you will notice that the alligator clips don’t give enough slack to hook that far from the engine. FYI the set also came with “ring terminals” for lack of a better word.

you should be able to connect it to any clean metal surface. im not 100% sure but if its just a trickle charge type maintainer, i dont see any harm in hooking it directly to the battery negative.

Why don’t you just connect it to battery terminals?

Instructions on how to do jump start say to connect negative cable to engine for two reasons. First is coarse main thing is to get power to starter not the battery and with negative cable connected to engine there is shorter path for electricity to starter. Second is that if last connection you do is to connect ground cable to engine then sparks that are created aren’t near battery.

            Go directly to the battery.

Is the highlighted “post” in the photo below the negative post on the battery? The battery doesn’t specifically say that it is…however it is parallel to the positive post.

And thank you for the replies so far.

Yes. Battery only has two posts positive and negative.

+1 on battery negative. Looks like you’ve got that sorted.

Got it working last week. Very simple once you know what you are doing.
