I can’t remember the exact moment when it happened but whenever I opened the trunk from the inside, the trunk will not latch at ALL. The only way to latch the trunk is to manually lock the latch and using the key to release the latch. Sometimes it works, but when it doesn’t work, I have to mess with the release cable and it will latch upon closing. Finding this annoying, I locked the trunk release to prevent anyone from opening it and encountering that problem.
The trunk latch in question is a 2000 Accord LX sedan. I’ve ignored it for years but now, I like to get it working properly again since I’m tired of cutting the car off to open the trunk.
Today, a thought was dropped into my head and that lead to me posting this question to get some feedback on whether or not this idea will work. I was thinking that the release cable might get stuck somewhere in the cable housing when it’s pulled and probably it needs some lubrication. I have a can of white lithium grease at home and it was used to lubricate the brake and shift cable so I’m wondering if the same philosophy will work. Any feedback is welcomed.
