        Hi K24A4,

Happy Friday! It is possible the rotors were warped. A couple suggestions to re-check. Ensure that the caliper pins are free and slide easy. This will allow both brake pads to engage the rotor when the brake pedal is pressed. Also ensure that the brake pads themselves fit snugly (but not too tight) in the caliper. A brake pad that is too tight in the caliper will not move as freely as it should, and could cause uneven brake pad pressure on the rotor. Was the hardware kit (thin, wire metal clips) re-installed properly too?

By chance, were the tires rotated at all? Or are the tires still on the same side and location as before? Keep us posted.

Also when he installed the new rotor, make sure that the surface facing the rotor were free of any debris and that the lug nuts for the tires were torqued properly. Uneven torque could warp the rotor.

+1 to BigC and Twiggy02919’s advice.

I usually use a steel brush to rid any rust from the hub flange then use a light coat of anti-sieze. Also check the wheel too for rust that also sits against the rotor.

+1 to what everyone said and I’ll add – did they make sure to clean the protective coating off the new rotor + any grease/oil that may have gotten on there during the install?

                Ditto to everything written above.

Check both sides of the rotors for what is called thickness variation or TV. Pad outline imprints are a common cause of TV. Many times this can happen when stopping at a stop light/sign after driving at high speeds.

There is a wealth of info at the http://www.stoptech.com website in the technical info section. I would read through this site to troubleshoot disc brake problems.

All great suggestions especially checking the install and cleaning the hub. I would also add that hub runout may be an issue and the best way to deal with that is to machine the rotors on the car. I would make sure they are installed correctly first.

You might also want to double check that all the lugnuts were torques down correctly. If he just used an impact gun and ran the lugs down until they were tight, it’s possible that they aren’t torques evenly, which will also cause a vibration.

All good tips, the rust and debris on the hub is the big one, that hub has to be good and clean for the rotor to sit on it flat. It is possible you got a warped rotor out of the box, happened to a buddy of mine not long ago, I had to take 0.030″ to make that sucker true.

                        Hey guys,

Just wanted to let you know the solution here. The new rotors he got were warped…he got them turned at a shop, and the problem went away.

That’s good news. I’d hate to see what the Centric non-premium rotors would have been like.

That’s good to know because I had planned to use Centric rotors on my Civic with my next brake service.

Thanks for posting the fix, that’s what makes this forum really work.
